Description
Hi this is just to share a problem I encountered at the poll today. I had to file a provisional ballot and was very disappointed to find out that it is not even looked at for 7-10 days. It was especially disappointing given I stood in line for an hour with my 2 month old and 3 year old who were short on patience. The reason I had to file the provisional ballot was because the polling place did not have me listed in their precinct. We moved to this area in July and I changed my address and updated my voter information then ( or so I thought). Anyway before the voter registration deadline I went online and checked to see if my info had been updated. It had not so I called the board of elections to correct the problem so I would not have a problem at the poll. I was told by the lady I talked with at the board of elections that it was ok and to just go to my new neighborhoods polling place. Well after my long wait at the polling place it was obviously not ok. I was given the option to then take my infant and toddler back to our old polling place ( and wait more) or file a provisional ballot. When I was weighing my options I was told it is "just a paper ballot" and "just takes a little more time." Not truly understanding I went with that option and now have learned that it is a vote that may not even be counted. It is so disappointing after I went to all that effort to make sure I could vote. The worst part is that I changed my husband's address with the MVA at the very same time I did mine and somehow his address change made it to polling place.
